Street Market
On the 7th, 17th and 26th of each month* it is advisable to visit the street market that is formed around the Central Market, next to Alameda Park. Several stands extend along the banks of river Barbaña offering all kinds of merchandises: textiles, handicrafts, ceramics, food … The seasoned customers will surely find great bargains.
*If any of the street fair days (7th,17th and 26th) was a Sunday or holiday, the market would be moved to the next working day.
Octopus Fair
At the same time, in the Campo da Feira fairgrounds, close to the thermal baths of A Chavasqueira, on the 7th and 17th* (but not the 26th) in the morning, several octopus chef stands preserve the gastronomic atmosphere of traditional Galician fairs, in an area with long common tables in which you can enjoy dishes such as the traditional Galician octopus or boiled meat, sometimes accompanied by bagpipe music.
Antiques and Flea Market
On the first Sunday of each month, the Main Square also houses the antique market: furniture, pottery, philately, numismatics … A flea market that will delight the nostalgics.
Ponte Canedo Market
With its reopening in 2024, the Ponte Canedo Market has become a reference in the district of A Ponte due to its many events: craft fair (first Saturday of the month), traditional fair (second Saturday), antiques fair (third Saturday), along with other occasional activities such as tastings, samplings or concerts. In addition, its restaurant area has a octopus chef every day of the week.
Theme Fairs
From time to time, Ourense hosts specialized markets coinciding with special dates: impressive is the Medieval Market during the City Festival, which completely transforms the streets of the Historic Centre. The area of Pontevedra Avenue, next to the Alameda Park, Paseo street and St. Lazarus’ Park are the typical locations of other themed events such as the Craft Fair, the Book Fair (both in spring) or the Christmas Market. You can check out these and other activities in the city on our monthly Entertainment Guide.
Professional Fairs
Expourense Convention Center hosts around ten specialist fairs each year, which focus mainly on the region’s potential subjects, such as gastronomy, thermalism, tourism, the social sphere, the funeral industry, viticulture, sport, etc. Some examples are Termatalia (a trade fair focusing on thermalism and wellness), Xantar (an international gastronomic tourism fair), Antiq Auria (antiques), Sportur (sports tourism), etc. At the same time, Expourense is also an ideal venue for MICE sector conferences and events.
